Joachim George Gauthier was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy in 1947, O.S.A. in 1933, and Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour.

He studied under J.E.H. MacDonald and Frank Carmicheal (members of the Group of Seven). His works are represented in most major collections in Canada.
