A member of the Automatistes art movement, Marcelle Ferron (1924-2001) was born in Louisville, Quebec. Her remarkable abstract paintings reflect the stirrings of cultural independence reflected in the manifesto, Rufus Global, created in 1948 under the leadership of Paul-Émile Borduas. Ferron also worked in the field of stained glass.
