Born in Toronto, John Hamilton “Jack” Bush (1909-77) pursued a career in art independently of European influences. Over time he joined William Ronald and other preeminent Canadian abstract artists in founding the Painters Eleven. He was a member of the group from 1953 to 1960. A Canada Post stamp honoring Bush was minted in 2009.
